Graphite for steel works

Graphite electrodes are an essential component in the production of steel. They’re the main heating component in electric arc furnaces, which are used to melt down scrap metal to create new steel.

Our graphite electrodes are used in electric arc furnaces around the world, and are produced to the highest quality.

Why is graphite used

  • It’s a good electrical conductor, and can withstand a high current density
  • It also has high thermal conductivity, which helps to minimise temperature differences
  • It’s chemically inert
  • Low thermal expansion means its strength isn’t reduced at high temperatures

Other applications

As well as for use in steel works, our graphite products are used in a range of other industries, including military defence, aerospace and manufacturing.
